The ambliFibre project, aiming at enhancing the system and control technology for the laser-assisted tape winding process for composite pipes and vessels, is in its final year. The completion of the design for the tape winding system includes the tape winding head by Fraunhofer IPT, responsible for guiding and consolidating the thermoplastic, unidirectional fibre-reinforced tape, and additional novel modules developed within the project:
• The laser optics by Ixun Lasertechnik and RWTH TOS integrates zoom and gradient functions for actively shaping the laser spot in the process zone;
• The thermal camera by New Infrared Technologies enables a high-frequency gathering of the temperature distribution for process evaluation and optimisation;
• The monitoring device by Fraunhofer ILT allows for gauging the in-situ consolidation online during the process.
The next step involves the physical integration of those systems and the software integration of the simulation model and HMI also developed within ambliFibre.
