University of Twente: Production Technology, Faculty of Engineering Technology

The University of Twente is an innovative, internationally oriented research university. Research at the University of Twente is mainly of a ‘fundamental-strategic’ nature: it focuses on issues which break fresh scientific ground and, at the same time, respond to needs in society. The University of Twente is the only campus university in the Netherlands; divided over six faculties with more than fifty educational programmes. The University of Twente has a strong focus on personal development and talented researchers are given scope for carrying out pioneering research.

The Faculty of Engineering Technology is one of the six faculties of the University of Twente and combines Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Industrial Design Engineering. There are approximately 800 bachelor and master students, 400 employees and 150 PhD candidates within the Faculty of Engineering Technology. The Production Technology research group within the Faculty of Engineering Technology focuses on processing and performance of lightweight materials and operates on the forefront of the international research on thermoplastic composites. Current research concentrates on high precision manufacturing of thermoplastic composites, in collaboration with national and international partners. Significant progress was made on modelling residual stresses in composites. The University of Twente is one of the founding members of the world wide forum for composite forming, investigating textile composite characterization and forming simulations. The main contribution of the University of Twente to ambliFibre is the leading of the process simulation development.
